Children and Young People's Partnership

The Children and Young People's Partnership works to provide improved, integrated, inclusive and responsive services that meet the needs of children and young people in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough.

Children and Young People's Partnership

We work together to make sure that all children and young people:

  1. Have a flying start in life
  2. Have a comprehensive range of education and learning opportunities
  3. Enjoy the best possible health and are free from abuse, victimisation and exploitation
  4. Have access to play, leisure, sporting and cultural activities
  5. Are listened to, treated with respect, and have their race and cultural identity recognised
  6. Have a safe home and a community which supports physical and emotional wellbeing
  7. Are not disadvantaged by poverty

In order to achieve these aims we look at the needs of children, young people and their families locally and improve how we deliver services to meet these needs. This means that we:

  • Talk to children, young people and their families to find out what they think about services
  • Bring together different partners to share understanding, information and resources
  • Undertake regular reviews of services to check they meet needs
  • Look at good practice elsewhere and see how we can adapt it for Merthyr Tydfil County Borough
  • Decide how to spend the Cymorth Fund to enhance of early years development, play opportunities, parental support and mentoring in adolescence to prevent problems such as school exclusion, early parenthood, low skills, offending behaviour and unemployment
  • Develop a joint plan for Children and Young People
  • Make sure children and young people know about their rights, entitlements and local services
